Monday Spotlight: K.M. Daughters

Selecting The Wild Rose Press…

The 2005 RWA National Conference marked K.M. Daughters’ beginning –as team writers and aspiring published authors. During morning walks we discussed the plot line of what became our first complete manuscript. (PAST, PRESENT AND FOREVER) Next, we crafted the first book in our Sullivan Boys Romantic Suspense series (AGAINST DOCTORS ORDERS).

Shared experiences during a sister trip on a religious pilgrimage to Bosnia Herzegovina inspired us to temporarily abandon our romantic suspense series WIP (Book 2, BEYOND THE CODE OF CONDUCT) and create an inspirational romance. Once we completed this novel, we were eager to actively pursue its publication. Separately – Kathie in New Jersey and Pat in Chicago – The Wild Rose Press’ ad in RWA’s publication, RWR, seeking submissions in all romance genres peaked our interest. Our novel centered on Marian apparitions, and the rose is associated with these occurrences. Perhaps we interpreted TWRP’s notice as a “sign”! But we acted on the publisher’s invitation immediately after referencing query and submission guidelines on the TWRP website. Two months later – we had a contract – actually two. A reader who “loved” our manuscript, AGAINST DOCTORS ORDERS, encouraged us to submit to TWRP’s crimson imprint and that resulted in a “double CALL” on 1/26/08! The “rose” in The Wild Rose Press may not have been a “sign”, but we believe we were led to our publisher.

Veterinarian Matty Connors’ visions lead her to homicide detective Brian Sullivan once again despite her resolve to remain anonymous the past four years. Her official work with the police in California resulted in the brutal murder of her fiancé, and since, a recurrent nightmare she barely survives. Brian, the reputed ladies man of the Sullivan family, has yet to give his heart to a woman until Matty lays claim to it. His black-and-white approach to solving crimes doesn’t jibe with Matty’s spooky pronouncements or her reputation for alleged infallibility. A wild goose chase searching for a murder weapon casts doubt on Matty’s “truths” and threatens their smoldering romance. Is Brian her nightmare slayer and ultimate truth? When the puzzle pieces fall in place for Brian, will it be too late to save Matty?
